Call for Abstracts
for the conference
Native Language and Other Languages VIII
28–29 November 2013, University of Tartu
On 28 and 29 November 2013, the University of Tartu Department of Estonian as a Foreign Language will hold its 8th conference in the series Native Language and Other Languages. The focus of the 2013 conference is on foreign language study.
INVITED SPEAKERS:
Henriëtte Hendriks (Cambridge University)
Pirkko Muikku-Werner (University of Eastern Finland)
Leelo Kingisepp (Iduleht Publishers)
The organisers invite proposals for oral and poster papers concerning the teaching and learning of foreign languages (including of Estonian as a foreign language) on the topics set out below:
- The impact of the native tongue and/or learner language on learning a foreign language
- Teaching a foreign language to learners of different levels and of different age groups
- The role of language environment in language learning
- Foreign language study and multimodal communication
- Grammar and lexicon in learning and teaching foreign languages
- Lingua franca issues
- Study aids and learner’s dictionaries
- E-learning in foreign language study
The list of topics is an indication and does not rule out other papers linked to the general theme of the conference.
The time allocated to a panel paper is 30 minutes (20 minutes for presenting the paper and 10 minutes for discussion).
The working languages of the conference are Estonian and English. Participation is free of charge, members of the public with an interest in the conference theme are welcome to attend. Preliminary registration is not required.
Conference papers will be published as a special issue of the Journal of Estonian and Finno-Ugric Linguistics. Further information is available on the website of the journal (http://jeful.ut.ee/).
On December 2, the plenary speaker of the conference Henriёtte Hendriks will give a public lecture at the University of Tartu.
